Tax and Estate Planning
Wework closely with our clients and their accountants to devise and implement tax minimization strategies in a wide variety of estate planning, business planning and personal contexts. In addition to our in-house tax expertise, we have ongoing relationships with an array of specialized tax professionals who can provide whatever particularized expertise our clients require.
We understand that estate planning is about more than just tax planning, and we have substantial experience in addressing and resolving the family and personal issues inherent in the estate planning process. Evidencing our expertise in this area, Sterling Publishing, a subsidiary of Barnes and Noble, engaged our attorneys to write an estate planning book for national distribution.
We also understand that business is not just an end in itself, but is also a means to an end -- the financial security of oneself and one's family. We understand how to make business plans and estate plans work together.
Powell Trachtman also handles the administration of estates. The assets of a decedent's estate need to be distributed in ways that make practical and financial sense, will and trust provisions need to be interpreted and implemented, the post-mortem planning techniques the law authorizes for the benefit of a decedent's heirs need to be considered, tax returns need to be completed with a view toward minimizing tax burdens, accountings need to be prepared and submitted, will contests need to be resolved - the process can be hyper‑technical and difficult. We have decades of experience in such estate administration matters.
See the Problems Prevented and Solved section of the website for examples of some of our work in these areas.
