Small and Medium Sized Businesses

We know that small and medium sized businesses want an alternative to the "mega-law firms". They cannot afford to be a "small fish" in a "big pond"; they need quick turnaround, flexibility and responsiveness; and they do not want to pay the rates that attorneys who work primarily for international conglomerates are charging. At the same time, they need experienced attorneys who have the expertise and logistical back-up sufficient to handle the most complicated commercial transaction or litigation.

Powell, Trachtman has structured itself to address the needs of these companies, and a large portion of our success is attributable to our popularity in this segment of the business community. We do this in two ways.

First, many of the most qualified attorneys - those with tenure in the largest law firms, as well as newly-minted law school graduates - do not wish to serve out their careers as cogs in 400-attorney offices. Consequently, many of the most highly talented, experienced and motivated attorneys seek us out because we offer an alternative: we are big enough to provide the scope and scale required for the representation of business clients, but we are small enough to preserve a law firm environment where attorneys can offer more personalized and reasonably-priced services to their clients.

Second, our clients benefit from our technology-based infrastructure and state of the art office facility. Years ago, only the largest law firms had the economies of scale to provide the resources that attorneys who serviced sophisticated business clients required. More recently, technology has leveled the playing field; what used to be available only to a few law firms is now available to virtually all law firms through the use of networks, CD-ROM, and Internet-based services. The trick is not in having these capabilities; it is in knowing how to use them. In this respect, we are, and for many years have been, ahead of the curve. Our attorneys know how to use our computer network to seamlessly and simultaneously access legal resources on CD-ROM, catalogued internal work product, and Internet-based resources. And they can do it from their office, or from the road. We train our attorneys to use cutting edge case-handling software for all of our transactional, business planning and litigation matters (i.e., document assembly programs, programs that store and catalogue depositions, programs that assist in the preparation of case chronologies and trial strategies, etc.). Our offices are equipped with "wired" conference rooms, "war rooms" for complicated cases, and training rooms used to keep our attorneys up to date. The upshot is that we can do more work, at a more sophisticated level, in less time than many other law firms, particularly firms our size.
